Andrew Thornton #31/#4180
AMT Racing 2020 Tentative Race Schedule:
We are a racing team owned by the Thornton family, based in Joplin, Missouri. Founded in late 2006 and ran our 1st season in 2007 fielding 2 jr dragsters at Houston Raceway Park (Now Royal Purple Raceway) and managed an event win in only our 5th race. From 2007 to 2011 we fielded 2 jrs with the oldest brothers Andrew, and Austin driving and won multiple events, and were 30+ time money winners at the local Houston area tracks. In 2012 Andrew stepped up to big cars in his 1981 Camaro built by him and a couple of friends, Austin moved to the Advanced jr dragster class, with the youngest of the 3, Adam moving into the sportsman jr dragster class. In 2013, we downsized back down to 2 cars, 1 jr dragster and one footbrake entry, due to lack of funding. In 2014 only Andrew competed for points at Royal Purple Raceway, racing a bone stock 2002 Dodge ram 1500 and went enough rounds to finish 17th overall in the footbrake points and qualified to go to the NHRA division 4 team finals in Ennis, Tx. In 2015, our 1st full season with "Doomsday" we ran a limited schedule at Royal Purple Raceway, tested at RPR an HMP, learned a lot of new things. Made the long haul and raced at the National Camaro Fest in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Clinching the quickest E.T. for a naturally aspirated car at the event, with an 11.66 at only 112mph. Our event and season eneded at the event after a hard launch twisted the old axles in the differential causing a vibration that broke the transmission bellhousing. 2016, we moved halfway across the country, and getting settled took a huge portion of our time and funding, plus catastrophic mechanical failure doesn't help either. In 2017 we underwent a big change, after finishing the Camaro only 2 race days later everything we had just repaired plus some suffered catastrophic failure. The decision was made to let the car go, after 6 years. In 2018 we jumped over to flat karts making 9 A feature starts, finishing the year with 8 top 10s, 4 top 5s and 3 A-feature wins. In 2019 running a very limited 4 race schedule in Texas and Louisiana resulted in 3 top 10s, and 2 top 5s. Now back in Joplin Missouri and going back drag racing with a 1979 Chevrolet impala station wagon called the "Party Barge". We look forward to attending bracket races at Mo-Kan Dragway and Tulsa Raceway Park primarily, with other stops at various points in the season.
Now looking forward to the 2020 season with some different goals in mind, having a good time and Racing at NHRA and IHRA, and the occasional AHRA facilities. We are looking for marketing partners in the 4 state area and beyond to make every race better than the last. Definitely do not rule out any circle track shenanigans either!
